Amersfoort is one of the country’s most underrated, beautiful medieval cities. And it’s so close to Amsterdam, just 40 minutes. Ensure your camera is out because every bend will reveal another wow moment.

Spakenburg is a former fishing village like Volendam, but it does not have the heavy tourist load and tourist shops of Volendam.

It’s a much more local and off-the-beaten-path experience, including a visit to a museum harbor. I am a resident of this area.
