Is the Go City Amsterdam Pass worth it in 2026?
Short answer:
Yes, the Go City Amsterdam Pass is worth it if you want attractions, tours, and a few museums.
No, skip this pass if you center your trip mostly around museums (another pass is better) or when you prefer slower one-stop days.
Iām Gerrit, a Dutch local and private guide. I tested the Go City Amsterdam Pass myself, and used it the way every traveler should: without rushing. I was definitely able to get my money worth. Hereās who should buy it, who shouldnāt, and how to avoid overpaying.

Who This Pass Is (and Is Not) For
Buy the Go City Pass if you:
- You want to visit the Heineken Experience, AāDAM Lookout, take a canal cruise, and go on guided day trips
- Like mixing a museum with other type of experiences on the same day
- Enjoy flexibility and donāt want to lock every hour in advance
Skip it if you:
- Plan to visit mostly museums (the I amsterdam Card fits better)
- Prefer one big activity per day and lots of downtime
- Expect public transport to be included (it isnāt) – although this should not be a dealbreaker
If youāre unsure, I compare all options in my full Amsterdam city-pass guide.
My Verdict (Before the Details)
I saved ā¬100+ over two relaxed days ā without packing my schedule.
Thatās the key for using a city pass successfully: value comes from choosing the right mix, not from trying to do everything.

Pros and Cons of the Go City Amsterdam Pass
Pros
- High-priced attractions included (Heineken, AāDAM Lookout, cruises)
- Guided tours you wonāt get with other passes (Zaanse Schans, seasonal Keukenhof)
- Easy app use; passes load instantly on your phone
- Good kidsā pricing (ages 3ā12)
Cons
- Van Gogh Museum and Anne Frank House are not included (no city pass includes them)
- Fewer museums than the I amsterdam Card, by design
- Complicated pass system with Essentials, Explorer, All-inclusive. I recommend All-inclusive always!
- No public transport (bike rental is included)
All-Inclusive vs Explorer vs Essentials: Which One Should You Pick?
Go City sells three passes in Amsterdam. The All-Inclusive is the best pass in my opinion and time-based- Visit as different experiences as you want over a set number of days, each attraction once.
The Explorer and the Essentials are choice-based: you pick how many places you want and use them at your own pace, within thirty days of your first visit.
The Essentials is the newest and the narrowest of the three, you need that one if you want a limited pass that includes the best and most expensive attractions. It starts at 59 euro for three attractions. The Explorer pass starts at only 44 euro for also three attractions but the list is limited to cheaper experiences.
Almost everyone is better off with the All-inclusive pass which includes the most experiences off all pass options and allows to try things you would otherwise not try. I tried the All-inclusive pass and loved it.
Go City All-Inclusive Pass
- Best choice for most first-timers
- Visit as many included sights as you want over 1ā5 days
- Includes the biggest ticket items (Heineken, Rijksmuseum, AāDAM Lookout, tours)
Starting at: ā¬79 (1 day)
I recommend this if you want freedom and strong value without micromanaging your days.
Go City Explorer Pass
- Choose 3, 4 or 5 attractions over 30 days
- More flexibility, but usually more expensive per attraction/tour.
- Fewer tours and sights included
Starting at: ā¬44 (3 attractions)
I only recommend this if the exact sights you want are on the list. Otherwise, the All-Inclusive wins.
Skip the tourist traps.
See the real Netherlands.

How the Go City Pass Amsterdam Works
- Buy online ā download the app ā passes load instantly
- First scan at an attraction activates the pass automatically
- Some sights require time slots; book them via the Go City app, not the attraction websites (immediately after your purchase)
- You can load multiple passes on one phone (for multiple people), or keep them on different phones
One detail that is confusing for many (and it did confuse me): the app shows a āvalue capā. You can ignore it. You wonāt hit it. It’s an admin thing.
Do Not Choose Your Pass Based on Transport
Public transport should not be the deciding factor when choosing a city pass.
In Amsterdam, getting around the city is simple and relatively inexpensive, so transport rarely tips the balance between passes.
- A 24-hour public transport day ticket costs ā¬9, which is low. š You can buy yours separately here.
- Trams and metros run frequently and cover all areas most visitors use
- I donāt recommend hop-on hop-off buses in Amsterdam. Theyāre slow, limited by traffic, and donāt reach that many places.
My Tips to Get the Most Value Out Of Your Go City Amsterdam Pass
- Cluster sights (Museum Quarter, Central Station area)
- Do daytime items first, evenings last (Lookout, cruises, tastings)
- Book time slots for popular tours as soon as you buy the pass
- Plan one anchor activity per day, then add lighter stops
This is how you save money and enjoy the city.

My Final Advice
I recommend the Go City Amsterdam Pass for travelers who want choice, and experiences beyond museums. Used well, it saves real money. Used without a plan, it often disappoints.
If you want help choosing between passes ā or fitting one into your exact trip ā thatās what I do every week for planning clients.

Frequently Asked Questions About The Go City Pass Amsterdam
Is the Van Gogh Museum included in the Go City Amsterdam Pass?
No. The Van Gogh Museum isĀ not includedĀ in the Go City Amsterdam Pass ā and to be clear, itāsĀ not included in any official Amsterdam city pass. š Buy Van Gogh Museum tickets separately here.
Is theĀ Anne Frank HouseĀ included in the Go City Pass Amsterdam?
No. The Anne Frank House isĀ never includedĀ in city passes. Tickets are soldĀ only through the museumās official website, and they do not work with resellers or pass programs. This visit needs to be booked well in advance.
Does the Go City Pass include public transport?
No, public transport is not included. In practice, thatās rarely a dealbreaker: Amsterdamās public transport is easy to use, and aĀ 24-hour public transport ticket costs ā¬9, which is low. I recommend choosing a pass based on attractions, then adding transport separately if needed.
Is the Go City Amsterdam Pass worth it?
Yes āĀ if you want variety and flexibility. The Go City Pass works best when you plan to combine attractions, tours, viewpoints, and a few museums. If your focus is mainly museums, theĀ I amsterdam City CardĀ is usually the better choice. š See my full comparison of Amsterdam city passes.
Excellent post and valuable information.
Thank you. I am super happy to hear that!
Hello Gerrit,I am coming to Holland in May/June with my family (6 adults, 1 teenager, 2 younger girls, a baby). I was thinking to buy a Go City Explorer pass. In your blog you say that passes can be on one phone or on several. How does that work if I buy them all at once and want to put them on different phones?
Also, if we book ahead is the discount name now GoCity24?
You asked your question in a public section of the website so I changed the language to English (and also my reply) so other people can benefit from your question too. I am not aware of a current discount code, but if you have a code that works, you can use it. It doesn’t matter you will use the passes later. The purchase date counts. In regard to making one purchase and then distribute them to different phones. That is easy. Every person needs to download the Go City App on their phone and then you can upload and or share each pass to a different device, that is no problem. Even if you make one purchase. I would appreciate using the link on this article to purchase your passes, that way you help support the upkeep of my website. Thank you!
Fantastic information, definitely a huge help towards planning our trip and using GoCity. Thanks so much! We’ve used gocity in the past and found it super easy using the passes on the phone to enter attractions.
I’m glad to hear that Amy, I love using Go City myself. I think their offering is appealing to many different people, and it can be a huge cost saver. Enjoy your time in Amsterdam. And thank you if you purchase your pass by clicking from my article. It will help support this website without extra cost to you. Thank you.
