Tours with Gerrit

My private tours offer more than standard tours. Your experience will be uniquely personal. I opt for fewer bookings to ensure I can dedicate ample time to each guest.

I only accept one booking per week. I focus on quality, not quantity. And that isn’t just a saying—it’s my promise.

A Friend in Amsterdam

Experience Amsterdam or take a day trip from Amsterdam like you have a local friend. This is how I like to offer my Holland Private Tours.

Every tour is personal

My private tours are personal. Every tour includes a private consultation before your departure for a chance to get to know you better so I can personalize the tour.

I never offer the same tour twice.

As a private tour customer, you’ll also have access to me during your entire stay; I’ll share my number with you so you’ll always have a helpline when needed.

What do Customers Say

I can’t believe how thorough you are!! We had an amazing day! We’re in the lounge trying to avoid beds and will study your ideas for tommorrow. So excited! And dinner was fantastic – just the right beat 😊

Ben and Lisa, Newburyport, MA USA

You are truly the best! From the bottom of my heart, we are so thankful for today. Beyond your easy company and knowledge, your attention to details is simply superb!

Emma, NYC USA

We had such a good time with you! Tell Herman thank you for sharing you with us… you made this trip extra special 😊. Btw, last night we grabbed a late dinner in the hotel before bed and we each offered our favorite highlights… Our daughter piped up first and said “Gerrit!”

Tours With Locals

Tours With Locals specializes in local tours. It’s a company founded in the Netherlands. What I love most about them is the high quality of tour guides they work with.

You can choose which guide you’d like to book for your tour. All tours are private, and the money you spend stays local.

You can look at their offers and guides here if you’re curious. I’m happy to refer people to them.

Tours With Eat With

Eat With is a company I can also highly recommend. If you’ve never heard about them, they specialize in local food experiences only, often within people’s private homes. It’s. unique experience.

You can find Eat With worldwide, and they have some fantastic local hosts in Amsterdam.

You can book food tours, private cooking classes, and more.

For example, a unique dining experience in her beautiful home—a must-try or book a Dutch pancake cooking class. Fusina is a fantastic host!

All experiences can be booked as a small group or private experience.

It’s a great way to meet locals, learn about Dutch customs, and enjoy a meal at the same time.

A recommendation I can make that is both a workshop and sharing a meal inside a beautiful canal home is this “Learn to Make Dutch Pancakes in a Beautiful Amsterdam Canal House” experience.

Eat With local Dutch pancake workshop.

Self Guided Tours

If a private tour is not for you, and you don’t like going on a group tour, a self-guided tour can be the solution.

Here are a few I highly recommend while in Amsterdam:

You can find more in Rick Steve’s travel guides. He has two for Amsterdam.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I book a tour with you as my guide?

You can book a tour with me by clicking “more details” above. On the next page will be more details about the tour and a button to book. I’ll let you know within 24 hours if I am available for the requested date. If so, I will send you the payment details, after the (initial) payment your tour is confirmed.

When do I need to pay for my Private Tour?

Upon booking, I request you to pay 25% of the booking value. You must pay the remaining amount for your tour at least two weeks in advance. Of course, you can also pay for your tour at once when booking.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancel up to 60 days ahead for a full refund. Between 30-59 days, get a 90% refund or rebook for free. Within 30 days, you can rebook for free or get a 75% refund. No changes are allowed within 48 hours of your tour.

Are tips included?

Tips are not included in the quoted price. Leaving a tip is optional and at your discretion as a token of appreciation if you had a good and fun tour with me. Here is my guide on Tipping in Amsterdam to help you understand how to tip.

What languages do you offer tours in?

I primarily offer tours in English (near-native) and Dutch (native). For four years, I have spent 50% of my time in the United States (Burbank, CA 🇺🇸). I’ve also worked at an English-speaking job at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport for many years.

Because of my time in the US and my best friend still living there, I naturally bridge cultural differences and references.

I’m conversational in Swedish. Still, conducting most of the tour in English is probably best if you’re a Swedish speaker 😊.

What is the maximum group size for your tours?

Due to strict local restrictions, I cannot accept bookings for parties larger than four people.

Can you accommodate special requests?

I offer the eight tours above, but slight modifications can always be made! I’ll do my best to accommodate you. Just fill out the appropriate box on the booking form.

Are your tours suitable for children or travelers with mobility issues?

Most tours can be customized for families or travelers with mobility issues. Please mention any specific needs when completing the booking form, and I will inform you within 24 hours if I can accommodate your request.

Do you provide transportation during the tour?

Yes, see each tour description above. Most tours are by car. I will use a comfortable SUV for these tours unless chosen differently.

The Amsterdam City tour is a walking tour. The museum tours start at the museum unless you request otherwise.

What should I wear or bring during the tour?

It’s best to wear comfortable shoes suitable for walking and adapt your clothes to the weather. Bring a water bottle and a fully charged phone to take plenty of pictures.

Don’t worry if you forgot your water. I always carry an extra bottle and gladly provide you with one free of charge. If needed, I have a battery pack (with a lightning and USB-C cable) that you can use.

Will you visit the red light district?

Due to local restrictions and personal preference, I will not offer tours into the red-light district. If you want to book a tour in this area, book a small group tour with a specialized provider who can navigate the complicated rules and ensure a pleasant experience is best.
